Recapping a successful Eifel Grand Prix weekend

Caught your breath yet? What a showing by Checo and Nico to score a valuable 16 points in the Constructors’ Championship!

It’s fair to say the weekend was as whirlwind as the rollercoaster at the Nürburgring, but the team came out on top when it mattered.

Without further ado, here’s the five key moments of the weekend.

1. Super-sub Nico slots in

Nico was having the ideal Saturday, a coffee with a friend – and then the call from Otmar flashed up on his phone!

He dashed to the circuit, took his required COVID test and hopped into the RP20 and was raring to go in no time!

Nico then played a big part in ensuring a successful weekend at a moments’ notice, not to mention his stunning effort to qualify just under half a second off a Q2 place after only 10 laps of running!

2. Tyre Whisperers

Both Checo and Nico demonstrated their excellent understanding of the Pirelli tyres and were able to lap significantly further into the race than their rivals in the first stint.

Checo ran 28 laps on the used Softs, while Nico ran 29 on his new Softs and it played a key part in Nico’s rise from P20 to P8.

For Checo, it helped him into podium contention before an ill-timed safety car thwarted our charge.

3. Checo’s Duel

It’s tough to pick just one great fight from either of our drivers – but Checo’s battle with Charles Leclerc midway through the race had us on the edge of our seats!

Checo started the battle with an excellent move heading into the final corner, but the DRS effect helped Leclerc fight back at Turn 1.

Not to be deterred, Checo sealed the deal by diving past the Ferrari on the run to the final chicane, and pulled clear to begin his hunt for the podium…

4. Moving On Up

Checo and Nico’s double points score lifted the team back into P3 in the Constructors’ Championship for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix.

With a four-point buffer over P4, we’ll be pushing hard to the end of the season to stay there!

5. Lance on the Mend

While Nico did a superb job under the circumstances, we can’t wait to welcome Lance back into the team.

Lance is feeling better and we’re hopeful he’ll be back in the car and fighting hard for a strong result in the Portuguese Grand Prix.
