Ford defeated as BWT Racing Point Esports Team surges up the table

BWT Racing Point Esports team is on the march in the Global Racing Series after victory over Team Fordzilla at Vallelunga in the V10 R-League!

The foundations of the win came in the first two rounds, with victories in the Head to Head and Relay Race preceding a nail-biting finale in the Team Race.

Lucas set the tone right from the off, with the polesitter holding off a spirited challenge from Ford's Rubén Rodríquez through the opening corners.

Lucas built a margin of over one second over his rival, holding on for the first strike.

The second Head to Head proved dramatic as Shanaka took on Shaun Arnold.

Shanaka initially defended hard through the sweeping first sector, but he had to concede the lead briefly. He then hit back at Turn 3 to move back into the lead, with victory assured after a spin from Arnold.

With the Head to Head victory confirmed, Rafael had the chance to make it a clean sweep up against Pablo López, but he lost out on the opening lap as Ford hit back.

The BWT Racing Point Esports Team trio then combined brilliantly in the Relay Race to earn a dominant victory.

Lucas began the race against the in-form López, and he managed to prevent the Ford driver from repeating his move on Rafael at the start.

A late braking move on the outside of Turn 2 helped Lucas stay ahead and he began to build a buffer over the Ford team, continuing to do the joker lap too.

Shanaka would then have a rematch with Shaun once he was behind the wheel, and the Ford driver was on the tail of the Racing Point machine.

But under pressure, Arnold spun, and Shanaka made the most of the advantage to extend the lead to almost five seconds before handing over to Rafael.

A technical issue would then cost Ford swathes of time, meaning Rafael was able to convert the lead into a victory and the overall match win!

While the win was in the bag, the Team Race was still a dramatic affair! Having starred in qualifying, the team started nearer the rear as a consequence of the reversed grid format.

But Shanaka wasted no time in surging into P2, pouncing when Rodríquez had an early off to hound down the leader López.

There was drama at Turn 2 when Lucas had to dive out of the way of potential contact, while Shanaka ran off the track and fell back.

Lucas picked up the mantle and, having worked his way up to P2 from P6, he pressured López relentlessly.

With Rafael keeping his nose clean in P4, behind Shanaka – the team went into the final stages tied on points with Ford.

Lucas closed the gap to within two seconds on the final lap, but López held on to first as he crossed the line.

As both teams scored equal points, neither earned a match point. But the two points moved Racing Point up to P5 in the standings – just three points off the top going into Round Five!
