Incredible Istanbul told in stats and figures

We’re still buzzing off the back of a great weekend in Turkey that put the BWT Racing Point F1 Team in a strong position heading into the final races of the 2020 Formula 1 season.

But before we switch focus to a Middle East triple-header, here’s a deeper look at the achievements of Checo, Lance and the team at Istanbul Park.

1 – Lance secured his first F1 pole position after a masterclass in the incredibly challenging wet conditions on Saturday, overcoming the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes on merit.

2 – Checo’s second-place finish was the best result of the BWT Racing Point F1 team era and it’s not done yet!

3 – Checo’s podium and Lance’s P9 finish ensured the team returned to P3 in the Constructors’ Championship heading into the deciding races – and it’s determined to hold onto it!

4 – With just a few races to go, Checo’s moved into P4 in the Drivers’ Championship and he’s in a close fight with Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo for the honour.

5 – Lance became F1’s fifth-youngest polesitter on Saturday in Turkey, further highlighting his incredible achievement.

7 – While Racing Point did its best to take its fair share of headlines, the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix will also go down in history as the race in which Lewis Hamilton matched Michael Schumacher for seven World Drivers’ Championship titles. Congrats Lewis!

32 – The number of laps Lance led in the Turkish Grand Prix, the most of anyone in the field. As the man himself said, shame it wasn’t more! Following the race, the team discovered damage to the underside of Lance's front wing that was a significant contributor to the graining issues that he experienced in the second and third stints. But Still, only the two Mercedes drivers have led more laps than Lance in the 2020 season!

48 – The number of laps Checo made the Intermediate tyre last in his crucial second stint that helped secure the podium, with only race-winner Hamilton going further than the Mexican on the same set of tyres.

100 – Checo’s 18-point return in the Turkish Grand Prix took him to 100 points for the season.

1997 – Lance became the first Canadian to take a pole position since Jacques Villeneuve did it in the 1997 European Grand Prix. Worth the wait for Lance’s home fans!
