Our man takes on the big questions asked by fans!

There’s not a lot of free time during a Grand Prix weekend – there’s the hard work with the team to prepare and analyse, the media obligations, and the small matter of driving a Formula 1 car!

But Lance managed to find some time during the recent Belgian Grand Prix weekend to take part in an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit.

We were impressed by the thought-provoking – and amusing! – questions put to Lance, so we’ve highlighted the best of them!

Treshot: Hello Lance! This year, I’ve noticed that you have improved your qualifying performance. Is that something you focused on during the winter as an area for improvement?

Lance: “I think it’s like putting together pieces of a puzzle. I’ve spent a lot of time working on my strengths and weaknesses and you can’t shortcut experience, so over time it’s helped me build up my performances.

“Also, the RP20 is the strongest car I’ve had in Formula 1, and I’m working with a really tight-knit group of people in the team, and it’s clicked.

“I’ve always enjoyed qualifying and I had some really good results early in my career, but it’s nice to be consistently getting good results – as is the team.”

solwGer: What makes you better at the start than other drivers?

“I always try to envision my starts and predict how they’re going to play out, but it really comes down to your instinct as a racing driver and making sure I’m ready for the unpredictable.

“Spain was a really good example; I was able to get into P3 at the start – I’d expected Max to make a strong start and knew I’d likely have to break around the outside into Turn 1. I didn’t expect to then get between Max and the Mercedes, but I was able to react.”

leohabs077: Do you believe that the grid order will be similar in 2022, even with the overhauled regulations?

“It's a good question, and it’s always hard to predict the future of Formula 1 – especially when 2022 is going to be a big change in the regulations as well.

“I think you’ll probably see the usual names up front, they’re so strong in so many ways, but I really hope we can be up there fighting with them and that there’s really close competition across the field.”

jithu7: Hi Lance, what do you like to do outside F1?

“I’m a real adrenaline junkie, and I love getting to head back to Canada to recharge the batteries too.

“I enjoy playing golf and I love to ski too. I think it’s really important to be able to disconnect from the day job and reset when you can.”

trillian222: We have the Honey Badger, the Iceman, the Torpedo, The Michael, the Professor.... What should Lance Stroll's nickname be?

"I’m not sure, so I’m glad I’ve looked at the comments people have suggested! The Pink Panther is definitely cool!"
