Five Key Moments from the United States Grand Prix
Checo completed a storming drive from the pitlane to a points finish in one of the main key moments in the United States Grand Prix for the team.
Take a look at the five key moments that shaped our weekend in Austin…
1. Pit Lane to Points
As a team, it’s our never-say-die attitude that drives us forward – and this certainly showed on Sunday in Austin.
Starting from the pit lane at the Circuit of the Americas, Checo showcased pure determination behind the wheel of the RP19 – leaping from P20 to take P10 at the chequered flag.
Performing a number of breathtaking overtakes throughout the race – including a daring pass on Daniil Kvyat – Checo was on top form in Texas!
2. Every Point Counts
Since the summer break we’ve been back racing at the heart of the midfield – battling against McLaren, Renault and Toro Rosso in an intense competition for points.
Heading to the United States tied with Toro Rosso, we left with a clear P6 in the Constructors’ Championship after overtaking the Italian marque courtesy of Checo’s single point.
With two weekends remaining, it’s too tight to call – but we’ll be pushing to the very last lap in Abu Dhabi to make sure we come out on top!
3. Garage Celebs
The United States Grand Prix always attracts celebrities to the paddock and that was certainly the case this weekend.
During our time in Austin, we had a number of famous faces visit us in the garage, including Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas, NFL star Dez Bryant, PGA golfer Juan Sebastian Munoz, and Gas Monkey Garage stars Richard Ray Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman.
We’ve never felt so popular!
4. Austin Atmosphere
While we visit many great venues over the course of a season, Austin is perhaps one of our favourites.
From BBQ to Blues, Austin has it all. Acclaimed for its food, live music and vibrant culture, the state capital of Texas has a little bit of everything that appeals to everybody.
We really can’t recommend a trip to COTA enough. We already can’t wait to return to the United States in 2020!
5. Formula Radio Semi-Finals
Throughout 2019, we’ve been involved in Sky Sports’ Formula Radio competition – and in Austin, the competition came down to the wire, as Checo faced off against Lando Norris for a spot in the final.
While Checo failed to vanquish his McLaren rival, it was a stellar fight with some great sportsmanship on show, as the British teenager came out on top amidst plenty of warm laughter on what was a chilly morning in the paddock!
