Lance reflects on the team’s development over 2019 and looks ahead to the United States Grand Prix
Since the summer break, it’s fair to say the team has been on an upward trajectory. Through a handful of updates and consistent refinement of our RP19 machines, we’ve found ourselves consistently inside the top 10.
Advancing into seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, Lance explains our progress since Belgium from his perspective:
“We’ve had an up and down season – but I think we’ve improved the car a lot since Spa,” he said on Thursday in Austin. “We brought an upgrade and it’s been much better since then. I think every weekend we can now score points.
“We missed out on some opportunities to score points – like at Monza with the incident with Vettel – but we’ve always been in the mix, which is great. I think that’s very promising going forward.”
Heading to Texas for the 19th race of the season, Lance has high hopes – targeting a strong haul of points for the team as our battle for fifth in the Constructors’ Standings comes down to the wire:
“I’m looking forward to this weekend,” continued Lance. “COTA is a really great track and it has one of the fastest first sectors on the calendar, so it’s always exciting to drive an F1 car here. A bag full of points in Austin would be nice and, in the midfield battle at the moment, anything can happen.
“From P7 to P14 there are very small margins,” he added. “It can be very track-dependent. P5 is a goal and it’s very achievable – we just have to execute it. I want to try and get the best results possible for the team. We’re still fighting with Toro Rosso and Renault, so we need to make it count [in the final three races].”
