The Abu Dhabi GP in Numbers

02/12/19

Key facts and figures of the final race of the 2019 season!

Lance Stroll on track in Abu Dhabi

That’s a wrap! The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the 21st and final race of the 2019 season – and indeed the decade, concluding a run of 198 Grands Prix from 2010-present with the first race to be held in December since 1963.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a race of mixed fortunes for the team, with Checo finishing as best of the rest behind the top three teams in P7, while a braking issue and resulting DNF robbed Lance of a points-scoring opportunity.

Nevertheless, it was a memorable affair at the Yas Marina Circuit. By taking P7 on the final lap with that spectacular overtake on Lando Norris, Checo recorded his sixth consecutive points-scoring finish this season, while also making it eight top 10 finishes from his past nine races.

With this killer consistency, Checo ended 2019 with the joint second-best form on the grid – equalling the points scoring streaks of Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Alexander Albon since the summer break.

En route to his seventh consecutive top 10 finish at the Yas Marina Circuit, Checo gained a total of three positions from his starting spot. This means that we’ve moved forward by a total of 104 places from grid to flag this season – an average 4.9 positions per race!

Our strategists were also hard at work over the course of the 55 lap battle, with the pit crew servicing our cars on three occasions and Checo completing a mammoth opening stint to make a one-stop strategy work to perfection and ultimately secure P10 in the Drivers’ Championship.

While our team performed a total of 63 race pit stops over the course of the 2019 season, the penultimate was one of our fastest – a 2.68s tyre swap for Lance marking the 10th fastest gun time of the race.

Although Lance’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix came to an early end, that didn’t stop us from completing extensive running, with the two drivers completing 392 laps [2,177km] of the Yas Marina Circuit across the weekend – the equivalent of driving from our Silverstone HQ to St Petersberg in Russia [and some more!]
